istian Marku Black Swan Dr. Kemler The Black Swan The black swan is a movie about an aspiring ballerina, Nina Sayers. She is in pursuit and greatly desires the lead role in a theatre production of â€Å"Swan Lake†, and she gets cast to dance both the white and black swan, two extremely different characters. She gets the lead role. The movie is not focused on the actual dancing but rather the stressful and emotionally taxing pursuit of perfection and self exploration which creates a psychotic breakdown for Nina. It was obvious that a psychiatric breakdown was present with Nina. Because Nina wasn’t not able to tell between reality and fantasy, her condition most likely will be schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a heterogeneous condition that typically begins in early adulthood. This mental disorder makes it difficult for one to differentiate between reality and fantasy, and is characterized by a wide range of symptoms. Some of these symptoms are language and communication, content of thought, perception, sense of self, delu sions, hallucinations. For language and communication, Nina is seen communicating differently with her mom as she previously did and this has to do with sense of self. She, now feels in control of decision making so she changes the way she communicates with her mom, which was her decision maker. Also, Nina seems to have a few people who does talk and communicate with like her mother, her director and at times, Lily, her colleague.
